Raised by his mother, Clotilda, after his father's death when Tony was 6 years old, he overcame a troubled youth. His mother, an incredibly strong and hardworking woman, instilled a deep faith and devotion to God which he always struggled to balance with his sometimes wild side. He began winning on the PGA Tour only after meeting and falling in love with Betty Cline, who became his wife. As he later admitted about his career, "When we became serious, I became serious." After his first victory, at the Orange County Open in October of 1962, he treated the press to champagne thus earning the endearing nickname, "Champagne Tony." In 1964, he went on a tear winning four events, including the British Open, in a six-week stretch. In the process, he became a superstar and enjoyed the lifestyle his stardom provided. Larry Baush has written extensively about craft beer for the The Pint Post, The Celebrator Beer News and All About Beer and he was inducted into the inaugural class of The Beer Writers Hall of Fame at Portland Brewing Company. He has also written about golf equipment and golf course reviews for the PuetzGolf.com blog. He also has caddied professionally at the SAFECO Classic Championship on the LPGA Tour. Larry lives in Seattle, Washington with his wife Carol and their Cocker Spaniel, Arnie Pawmer. Larry carries a single digit handicap at Rainier Golf and Country Club.
