It looks at the requirements under the Australian Standards tht relate to timber use in playgrounds and assesses their suitability and concludes that they give no design certainty and can even be very dangerous. The three species groups that designers are likely to encounter hardwood, cypress and pine in both sawn and round are investigated. Other areas examined in detail are how to engage with the ground, how to detail joints and timber preservation. The book concludes with a design checklist and a number of case histories.
