Description

by Anji Marth (Author)

A frightening collection of cryptids, monsters, and ghosts from around the world, ready for you to color For each of the creatures, there is a short story explaining their origin and history. A coloring book for adults, THE HORRORS highlights creatures of folklore specific to certain regions on every continent of the globe. No franchised TV or movie monsters are included in THE HORRORS; only myth, folklore, ghosts, and cryptids that exist outside the universe of fiction. Based on collected urban legends, folktales, and cryptid sightings, every illustration includes where the creature is found and its habits. Since violence and nudity appear in this book, it is meant for adults only. Since the beginning of time, tales of cryptids, ghosts, and monsters have been used to explain our fears. Generally the fear comes first, best described as the darkness around the primordial fire, one full of hungry eyes. Then there are the sound and sensory experiences; from the eaves whistling in the wind at midnight, to the creak of a staircase when nobody is there, to the cold drafts we feel at the most unexpected moments. Thankfully there's an explanation. The wind frightens us because it sometimes sounds like a human voice, calling out in hunger and desperation. The darkness becomes unsettling, as it may contain monsters which will devour or change us. The deep sea is an endless mystery, extending far below our paddling feet. Are THE HORRORS real? I've encountered a few of the creatures in this tattoo coloring book. There's a good chance you may have as well; maybe your brother did, or a friend of a friend. Urban legends and myths are things we rarely come into personal contact with, but stories we hear over and over again. These stories are often intended to correct our bad, sometimes dangerous, behaviors and impulses. Many of these creatures appear as punishment for misdeeds; some appear when one violates a certain taboo. Others will reveal themselves when we enter their sacred ground. Maybe we tell these stories to control ourselves. Maybe we tell them because we like to feel afraid.
