These reflections add authenticity to the story that is engaging for the reader whilst offering them the opportunity to reflect on their own thoughts and decisions when faced with a similar set of circumstances. Nigel is the first to admit that he doesn't always get things right, but he always does his best recognising that he is the sum of his own decisions. After all, as he suggests, he is just a 'Gifted Amateur.'
