After bearing nine children and moving between Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, and Kansas, Sarah was no stranger to hardship, but even these experiences could not prepare her for what lay ahead as she started on her overland journey westward at the age of forty-six. Sarah's Diary is much more than the story of one family as told by one individual . it is the story of the courage, spirit, determination, and integrity that established the foundation of our nation.
