In January 1969, he was ordered back to Vietnam and was made the Commander of C Troop, 1/9 Cavalry. 31 March 1969 he was wounded and was hospitalized until July 1969 when he was assigned to the 8/1 Cavalry as the Squadron Executive Officer in the 194th Armor Brigade at Fort Knox.
