Description

by Marcia Kreutzmann (Author)

Miss Hippie in Mississippi is a remembrance of California and the Deep South of America, two places that would not and could not coexist. At the emergence of the counter-culture in San Francisco, where her older brother began a 50-year career with the Grateful Dead rock 'n' roll band, Miss Marcia Kreutzmann began a road trip south in an Oldmobile Delta 88. On the road, Marcia and her mother came to a misunderstanding. The destination forced by divorce was Mississippi. Five-year-old Marcia heard this as Miss Hippie. The story spans 50 years, beginning in Palo Alto, California, dances a Mephisto Waltz with the backwaters of Biloxi, Missisppi and returns to the hallucinogenic landscape of California of a certain time and place. Miss Hippie in Mississippi is a masterful telling of her father's artful family where Dad grew marijuana in one closet and kept the skeletons locked in another. And then there was the problem of Mother ...

Author Biography

Miss Kreutzmann grew up in the Deep South of Mississippi and Northern California. In the South, she enjoyed both hurricane season and Mardi Gras. In California she enjoyed wildfires, earthquakes and Grateful Dead performances backstage. Her brother, Billy, is a founding member of the band. Her grandfather, Clark Shaughnessy, is the famous football coach. After mulling things over for 50 years, She wrote down her memories in Miss Hippie In Mississippi, using the same words as William Shakespeare but putting them in a slightly different order. Miss Marcia owns a pet grooming business in Sonoma County, California. This is her first book.
