Description

by Jeff Copeland (Author)

A young, aspiring writer desperate for a break...and the legendary Andy Warhol superstar who gave him the story of a lifetime.

By the mid-1980s, Holly Woodlawn, once lauded by George Cukor for her performance in the 1970 Warhol production and Paul Morrissey directed Trash, was washed up. Over. Kaput. She was living in a squalid Hollywood apartment with her dog and bottles of Chardonnay. A chance meeting with starry-eyed corn-fed Missouri-born Jeff Copeland, who moved to Hollywood with dreams of 'making it' as a television writer, changed the course of BOTH of their lives forever.

Love You Madly, Holly Woodlawn is a story of how an unlikely friendship with a young gay writer and an, ahem, mature trans actress and performer created the bestselling autobiography of 1991, A Low Life in High Heels. This book about writing a book is a celebration of chutzpa and love as Holly, the embodiment of Auntie Mame, introduces Jeff to the glamorous (and sometimes larcenous) world of a Warhol Superstar. In turn, Jeff uses his writing (and typing) talent to give Holly the second chance at fame she craved.

In turns hilarious and heartwarming, Love You Madly, Holly Woodlawn is a portrait of the real Holly who loved deeply, laughed loudly, and left mayhem in her wake. Foreword by queer icon and author, Simon Doonan.

Author Biography

The problem with Jeff Copeland is that he's crazier than a fly in a sh*t house and damn proud of it. While he can follow the rules and color inside the lines, he prefers to go against the grain, break with convention, grab the establishment by the hair of the ass crack, and give it a good SPANK!

For nearly 30 years, he worked as a show biz hobo, hopping from one gravy train to the next. He was nominated for an Emmy (yay!) and lost (boo!), and has enjoyed working on fun, compelling, and exciting content for a variety of TV networks and film studios, including Discovery, Animal Planet, HGTV, ABC, FOX, and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Career highlights include the award-winning documentary science series "World of Wonder" with Dr. Mae Jemison, working with Moe Howard's daughter on "The Three Stooges Greatest Hits," producing nearly 100 episodes of "Flea Market Finds" with antique experts Ralph & Terry Kovel, creating outrageous, hair-raising lead stories for the Leeza Gibbons' series "America Now," and helping produce DVD bonus features for films like "The Fifth Element," "Princess Bride," "Hudson Hawk," and Garry Shandling's "The Larry Sanders Show."

The two years he spent working with Garry Shandling led to a corporate position with Sony Pictures Television, where he served as a Director of something he didn't really know or understand. He was like a deer caught in the headlights for three years until a massive corporate layoff put an end to those shenanigans.

Then, in 2014, jonesing for a new challenge, he elbowed his way into Los Angeles real estate sales. Although he trained at a prestigious high-end brokerage on the Sunset Strip, he preferred working in the "less desirable" neighborhoods in the "wrong parts of town" because he found them more interesting. His motto: the best thing about living in a bad neighborhood is there's no traffic because no one wants to go there. He eventually joined Claire Lissone's Real Estate Collective in L.A.'s burgeoning Adams District and specialized in unique, historic properties. It was a fun, exciting time; one of the best experiences of his life.

In 2019, he jumped off the proverbial hamster wheel, had a mental breakdown, and was carted off to the home, where he now lives with two rambunctious pet squirrels, Poppycock and Blarney.
