His story not only imparts the value of life but also echoes my father's experiences of the 1950s and 1960s-a time when forbidden actions were not uncommon among siblings, and poverty was a constant adversary for Toto.

Despite facing poverty and hardship, his infectious smile left an indelible impression on everyone, even his mother. He possessed the unique ability to bring joy and mischief simultaneously, rendering him irresistible and impossible to refuse.

Reliving his emotional family narratives often brought tears to my eyes, yet as the writer and author of this book, I struggled to muster the courage to do justice to his life. Recalling snippets of his life, as recounted by him and his siblings, especially their experiences during the world wars, was both poignant and revealing. However, the most significant insights came from my Grandma Nicoletta before her passing in 1965.

This book is dedicated to the memory of my grandmother Nicoletta and my father Salvatore, whose lives and stories continue to inspire and enrich mine.
