Description

by Candace Whittemore Lovely (Author)

If you'd like to know the Impressionist's magic and secrets of color, then this book is for you. This is a coloring book for all ages. Maybe you just like to 'color' just for sheer enjoyment of a childhood delight, or for those who want to learn how to see form and color, this book can open up a whole world of artistic pleasure. The images are from Candace's original, Still Life, oil paintings. Each drawing is in 'values' (meaning depth or darkness) of primary blue, so since form is made where the highlight meets the shadow, you can see form immediately. The highlights and shadows are for you to color. While coloring, you will get a taste of what it's like to follow the rules of nature, light and color. The challenge now rests with you to color hues, with intensity and more value. Magic will happen when you color over the blue sketches with the other 2 primary pigment colors, yellow and red. Secondary colors like green are made by adding yellow to the blue. Or purple is created by combining primary red with primary blue. Orange is made from yellow and red.

Author Biography

Candace's artistic journey started in Vermont at the tender age of five. As a young child, "Candy" was often found coloring or playing nurse. When her artist mother refused to replenish the sugar pills she was dispensing to her brothers, but would replenish her crayons, the path to being an artist was set. Her mother chose crayons as an alternative to medications because art in itself is a healing therapy. Candace took this wisdom to heart, and has Incorporated this philosophy into her art throughout her career. Candace Whittemore Lovely is an American Impressionist painter and Copley Master, trained in the Boston School tradition. She is known for her pleasant, peaceable views on American life. Her ability, to capture the American Spirit in art, lead to her receiving the American Women in the Arts Award from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is listed as one of the sixty most prominent alumni of the University of Vermont. Candace had the honor of painting First Lady Barbara Bush's official White House portrait in 1990, and has been called "the Grand Dame of Boston Painters" by critics. A former Vermont, Boston and Cape Porpoise resident, Candace now maintains a home and studio on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Please visit her website, www.candacelovely.com to learn more.
