Author Biography

Richard Pratt, AIA, an architect in Hightstown, NJ, has been fascinated by architecture since helping his dad build houses and furniture as a young teen. Since moving to Hightstown in 1995, Rick has developed an intimate knowledge of historic home restoration while restoring his 1885 Victorian Vernacular home in the Stockton Street Historic District. As the house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and exterior alterations are overseen by the Hightstown Historic Preservation Commission, Rick has a long history of blending new and old features to enrich the home's character inside and out. Rick has assisted many neighbors and friends in creating solutions for interior and exterior renovations that maintain functionality, update materials, and restore original elements of old houses. He is currently earning certification in Historic Preservation at Drew University. Rick recently launched Stockton Street Solutions, offering consulting services as well as design, 3D modeling, custom woodworking, and publications to assist owners of historic houses in restoring their homes' ethos. Rick is a lifetime member of the Hightstown-East Windsor Historical Society and is dedicated to advocating for the preservation of old American homes. He lives in Hightstown with his wife and two children.
